Purpose:
STRATEGIC PLANNING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: The Division of Continuing Education, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, is responsible for non-credit programming within the Faculty including courses, programs, certificates and conferences. The Director is responsible for the development of the Division’s overall strategic plan and all business development activities, including providing leadership in the development of new areas of activity that complement the academic and strategic objectives of the Faculty and University. In collaboration with the Division’s management team, the Director updates, enhances, and implements the Division’s annual strategic plan which sets revenue and programming goals. LEADERSHIP AND OVERALL MANAGEMENT OF THE DIVISION OF CONTINUING EDUCATION: The Director will provide leadership and initiative in the oversight of all aspects of the Division’s operations. The Director has supervisory responsibility for the Division’s management team. The Director oversees the effective and efficient implementation of the Division’s marketing and communications; registration, financial administration and financial reporting; program development, implementation, evaluation and refinement; and related systems. In collaboration with the Division’s management team, the Director is responsible for meeting the annual financial objectives. DEVELOPMENT OF AGREEMENTS WITH JOINT VENTURE ASSOCIATES: The Director assumes overall responsibility for identifying collaborative opportunities for program development and delivery, both on- and off-campus, and for negotiating favourable, financially and legally-sound joint venture association agreements for these initiatives. In collaboration with the Executive Assistant – Policy and Planning, the Director ensures that the joint venture agreements are vetted with York’s Counsel, Insurance and Risk Management Department and other stakeholders, for approval and signature by the Dean of Atkinson, and the Vice President Academic. REPRESENTS THE DIVISION ON FACULTY, UNIVERSITY AND EXTERNAL COMMITTEES: The Director represents the Division on Faculty and University committees, including the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies Committee on Policy and Planning, Committee of Chairs and Directors, Faculty Council and the Advisory Committee on Non-Degree Studies, Office of the VP Academic. In addition, the Director coordinates activities of the Division’s Executive Committee for approval of new academic initiatives, and represents the Division’s interests and the proposal through the Faculty and University’s approval process for non-credit initiatives. DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCE STANDING CREDIT PROPOSALS: The Director assumes responsibility for developing a strategy for the new area of advanced standing credit proposals, and exploring relationships with credit certificates. |

Education:
Graduate degree (MBA or equivalent) is required, post-graduate degree preferred. A background in adult education, university administration and technology-enhanced learning are required. |

Experience:
7 to 10 years related managerial experience including supervisory and budgetary responsibilities in a continuing education and for-profit environment is a requirement. Experience managing staff within a unionized environment is an asset. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: corporate training, human and social services programming/education, technology programming/education, financial and human resource management, and marketing/communications. |

Skills:
Strong supervisory and management skills, with an emphasis on team building and team leadership; excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and resolve disputes; organizational and management skills including directing concurrent activities; familiarity with university environment, policy setting bodies and procedures, academic and non-academic policies and regulations; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent presentation skills; proven analytical, decision making and planning ability; working knowledge of computers, word processing and spreadsheet skills. |
