It is an incredibly exciting time for the Faculty of Arts and Science at Capilano University. As the new Dean, you will lead Faculty through a time of growth and development. As such, Capilano University is seeking an exceptional individual with an exemplary record as an educator, scholar, and administrator within a dynamic and evolving post-secondary environment. As an accomplished academic, the ideal candidate will bring a commitment to student-centric learning in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment.

Reporting to the Vice President, Academic & Provost, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences is the chief academic and administrative officer of the Faculty and is responsible for all operational and strategic decisions, processes and communications The Dean oversees performance of Chairs, Coordinators, Conveners and the learning outcomes and teaching accomplishments of Faculty. As an integral member of the senior leadership group, the Dean upholds the values in the University strategic plan and contributes to the goals and priorities of the University and academic plans. The Dean also contributes academic leadership through participating in Senate and a wide variety of operational, strategic, and governance committees and initiatives internal and external to the university.

The successful candidate will bring proven senior leadership experience within a post-secondary environment and competencies in developing and successfully launching programming that is experiential, authentic, and attuned to the aspirations of learners and communities. The ideal candidate will have outstanding relationship skills, a history of positive actions in support of Indigenization, reconciliation, decolonizing approaches, and contributing to advancing equity and inclusion. With proven abilities to achieve results in a complex, multi-partner environment, the Dean will have a reputation for being fair, equitable, and focused on outcomes that serve a broad mandate. A strong level of collaboration with the Faculty and leadership colleagues as considered requisite to the candidate’s success and contributions.
